July 2014

I might not be as prompt as I'd like, but I'm keeping up with this project, and have succeeded in taking a photo every single day this year  but one this month.  [THE HORROR]  I borrowed a photo from the following day, which bothers me to no end, but it's my own fault.  And I won't admit which one it is.  My twice daily reminders on my phone are becoming very easy to ignore, and often serve more as a reminder that it must be 2pm or 8pm if my phone is dinging.  I might need to rethink this strategy. I made progress with fewer food pictures this month, but this was mostly because I had nephew in town and also interaction with other cute children and/or my own belly/baby.  Not that food pictures are bad...I like food.  Cute children are better though. On to working on August in the hopes of posting it well before the end of September.

24 weeks | Viability!

Image
Week 23 at Girls Weekend and Week 24 at the State Fair Definite major growth with the bump in the last week.  The first photo above was at the tail end of a weekend of EATING nonstop, and the second photo was upon arrival to the fair, with nary a single calorie ingested.  Baby is doing some serious growing! Reaching the point of viability feels monumental.  Huge.  Yes, I hope our baby stays put, and healthy, for the next 14+ weeks at least.  But knowing that if the unexpected occurs and our baby were born now, it still stands a chance of living in this world.  My fingers are crossed for the 14-15 weeks range (well before Christmas).  I know isn't realistic or smart to be thinking, but I can't deny it's on my mind.  Of course I want the baby to arrive when he/she is ready and not a moment sooner.  But the mind games of not knowing when it'll happen, thinking about how this momentous occasion will forev...

Girls Weekend 2014

Image
Another fabulous Girls Weekend has come and gone.  I'm still recovering from the overeating, and the laughing, and having no real agenda for 2 whole days.  Mandy and I headed up to Sandy's place (a home on the St Croix that we've rented twice now) on Thursday afternoon.  It was a beautiful day, and we spent a lot of time sitting out on the deck, checking out the dock and river, soaking our feet in the freezing pool, and went on the world's hottest walk to nowhere.  We thought a couple of the girls were not far behind us, but it turns out they were still home packing.  They finally arrived at the cusp of my hunger breakdown (really, the cookies and Twizzlers were no longer cutting it for me and my little one), so we ate inhaled tacos on the deck.  Two more ladies arrived later that evening, and the last friend the following evening.   Betsy wasn't able to join this year, and we missed her sweet, hilarious self like crazy.  She was also...

22 weeks

Things are humming along in the Baby Land 'o Lisa.  Officially 22 weeks on 8/9, up at Dead Lake for the weekend...yeah, not the greatest name for such a beautiful lake.   I'm told by weekly newsletters that the baby is approximately 11 inches long, almost 1 lb, and the size of a spaghetti squash (whatever the heck that is).  I'm guessing he/she might be a bit bigger than that having last measured a week ahead. My belly is growing larger and harder and itchier by the day, and I'm finding it very hard to imagine carrying a 7-8 lb in there by the end.  Our baby is practicing martial arts daily, always in the morning after my breakfast and cup of coffee, and the evening once I sit down for a bit, with more frequent bouts in between.  The movement I feel is surreal, and I know it's only going to get crazier and more pronounced.  The movement stops when I say "Hi Baby" but then usually picks up again...

Day in the Life - Summer 2014

Image
It's time to tackle another Day in the Life, my last one as a family of two with what I will undoubtedly reflect back on as endless hours of free time.  I just read through the last two DITLs and am so grateful I have them, even if they are about boring life things like baking and watching TV and working out.  Tuesday, July 29, 2014 4:55am: I wake up for the umpteenth time and roll over to my other side.  Sleeping only on my sides is really killing my hips, and my quality of sleep.  Grateful I have a little more time to catch a few more zzz's. 5:45am: My alarm goes off, and I growl.  That was not long enough.  I tap my FitBit to exit sleep mode, and roll my way out of bed.  I'm amazed at how difficult it is to pop up out of bed already and I'm only 20 weeks pregnant. I hop in and out of the shower, get dressed, apply some make-up, and hear Jon's alarm go off. He sleeps through several minutes of it, so I enjoy the music while ...
