Life lately

Image
Okay, so I finally squeezed in the rest of our holiday recap. Now let’s get caught up to real-time. Life lately. Hmm. It’s been good and bad. Two weeks ago, Jon’s grandma ended up in the hospital with an infection, and due to end-stage kidney failure there wasn’t much to be done. Suddenly, she requested to bid her farewells, and was able to do so with just about every member of her family. She sensed the end was near, which is eerie and also a bit comforting. Many of us gathered for days at her side (Carter and I the least given his age and need for somewhat regular sleep) until she peacefully passed two days later. We are all heartbroken to have had to say goodbye. She led a long, beautiful life, and knew this was her time, but nonetheless we are all missing her terribly and it's only been a week and a half. Carter was a shining light in this terribly hard time for the family. In the hospital, he was running up and down the halls, shouting in his chirpy little voice, ...

A Holiday Recap - 2015

{Catching up} The holidays were very good to us this year. Mostly. (Read: norovirus, you are evil). This time of year truly is wonderful. Decorating, baking, wrapping presents, Hallmark movies, sweatpants and slippers…I love it all. But best yet is time spent with family. We are blessed to have a lot of family in town, so we are never without good company this time of year. This year, he was still oblivious, but much more fun in a lot of ways.  I took the whole week off, as daycare was closed, and really enjoyed my extra time with him. Monday we visited Jon at work, then ...

I took a break

After making it through 20+ monthly posts of pregnancy and Carter’s first year, I suddenly felt no desire to blog. At all. I lacked inspiration, purpose, and I questioned why I was putting so much of our lives out there for the world to access. Was I blogging because I wanted to share our story or had anything worthy to say? Or was I documenting for my own sake? Did it matter? Should I be thinking about our privacy? Why does it suddenly feel like a chore? So I took a break. I briefly started documenting our holidays after I re-read my 2014 Christmas recap (and realized I loved having it to look back on), but I didn’t make it far. And then today, I realized that there are so many funny, sweet, important little moments that go by that I am not capturing. Particularly because of Carter and his age (and antics) because let’s face it: he is our world.  Like this morning when he went into the closet, grabbed one of Jon’s white undershirts, and brought it to him in the bathro...
