Today, my baby has reached the size of an avocado, my all-time favorite fruit, at 4 1/2 inches long from head to rump (really, is there no better term than rump?).  Another source says he/she is already 7 inches head to heel, like a carrot.  A CARROT baby! The growth is clearly happening as my belly continues to grow like crazy.  See? I kinda love it. Our baby is apparently looking more and more human each day, according to the weekly newsletters I receive.  That's nice to hear.  Baby's legs are finally longer than his/her arms, the ears have moved to the side of the head (they were on the neck), and eyes have positioned themselves from the sides of the head to the front of the face.  Woah.  I never knew these body parts started out growing elsewhere, and that kind of weirds me out.  Talk about miracle of life. I'm about at the point where I can't sleep on my stomach anymore, which depresses...

May 2014

Seeing as it is almost July, I figured I should get to arranging my May photos.  No need to get too far behind, or I'll never make it the rest of the year.

14 weeks

I'm finally posting in real time.  Yesterday I officially reached 14 weeks along.  And I seem to be on an "every two weeks" pattern with updates on the good ol blog, so here I am.  I'm not really sure exactly how I feel about belly photos at this point because they are just not flattering for me at all, but I'm thinking they'll be fun to look back on when I'm huge, so here it is. We announced our news on Facebook (which means most everyone that I know now knows our news), so it feels great to have it out there.  The president of our company walked by me the other day, pointed to my belly, gave me a fist pump, and walked away.  Ha.  Our HR coordinator came over to my desk, asked if I was a hugger (totally am), and then gave me a giant hug.  She said she should have known when I had stopped my morning cup of coffee and then just recently went back to decaf.  (She's not a crazy coffee stalker, just happens to always be in the kitchen...

June 3, 2014 This is the last of my posts I was writing while still publicly "in the closet" about my pregnancy. First belly (aka bloat) photo at 12w, a few days ago. Note: I made the bed just for this photo...while I insist on it being made (with hospital corners, no less) before I climb into it at night, neither of us ever make the bed in the morning.  In fact, Jon could care less about a made bed ever.  But I can't have it messy for a photo. Also note: my belly wasn't (sadly) that much smaller pre-pregnancy.  Winter got the best of me. This first trimester is really flying by.  I'm nearing the end of it and am really hopeful that my energy comes back in the second tri.  I've been going to bed around 9pm and getting at least 8-9 hours of sleep a night, and yet by early evening I am utterly exhausted again.  I'm feeling my uterus stretch periodically, which reminds me that things are going on in there.  I c...

May 19, 2014 Time is flying by, I can hardly believe it.  Today I'm 10w2d. The last two weeks have been incredibly exciting for us.  One, we have shared the news with our extended families!  Two, I reached double digits, which feels like a huge feat to a girl that worries a lot.  Three, my sister, BIL, and nephew are home for a long visit!  Now if I only didn't have to work... On Mother's Day, we told Jon's family.  I was only 9 weeks, which felt a little "too early,"  but we were seeing Grandma and Aunt in person , so it was a no brainer.  We gave Grandma a card that we had signed "Jon, Lisa, and baby."  We watched her as she opened it, and could tell when she got to the bottom her eyes went back up to the top and started again.  I don't think she could believe what she read.  Then her jaw dropped and she looked at me and said, "WHAT?  REALLY?" and was just besides herself with excitement.  What was f...

May 3, 2014 Woah...I'm pregnant.  It's still not feeling quite real.  I'm beyond the moon excited, but it is still all so surreal, like I'm dreaming.  I can't believe I've reached 8 weeks today. It seems like a huge milestone, but I know it's nothing in comparison to the next 32 weeks.  Nonetheless, the transformation this baby is going through up until now is incredible, and so very important, so I'm happy to be here.  And it seems fitting I finally start writing about it, for memory's sake, even if I'm not ready to publish it yet. I know I've been very lucky in this pregnancy so far.  Granted, I've felt really crummy and exhausted, but no throwing up, which I'm thankful for.  Headaches are daily, nausea appears whenever I haven't eaten in 1-2 hours, and I am so incredibly tired it is unbelievable.  But that's the worst of it, which I know is very fortunate after hearing tales from other people. ...

Three.  That sounds lovely. I think almost everyone that reads my blog (at least those of you I know in real life) should already know this news, but I felt I should put it here, since I love this blog for the treasured memories I document. We are so incredibly excited for this next stage in our family and cannot wait to meet him/her.  This baby is such a blessing to us.  Baby K is due in mid December, just in time for all the joy that the Christmas holidays bring.  We might will be in for a more sleep deprived season, but it'll be so much better because of this new addition. And if you're wondering, we will not be finding out the gender until birth.  This is the second question I have been repeatedly asked, after asking my due date.  It's funny that so many people expect you to find out the gender these days, when not so long ago it was hardly done or even possible.  We've decided that there may be no greater ...

Nephew meets MN

Image
I spent much of the last two weeks with my sweet, scrumptious little nephew N, my super awesome little sister, and my ever witty brother-in-law.  It was so great, and I'm glad they got this opportunity to spend time here before they move on to new adventures.  It was my nephew's first visit to MN, and to the states in fact.  Therefore we had to show him a good time, which is not hard with a 4.5 month old. It is incredible how much N has grown and developed since I saw him in Brazil.  He's smiling up a storm now, which just melts my heart with goodness, and has such an incredible personality already.  I love all the sweet children in my life, but this guy?  He holds a very special place in my heart.  The first weekend they arrived, my sister had a baby blessing scheduled.  It was a quaint affair, with a lovely ceremony by a pastor that visited my parents' house.  Jon and I were hon...
