Where the heck did May go?

Image
It's almost June.  I'm feeling flabbergasted.  How is it that the entire month of May has almost passed?  It feels like yesterday that May was just starting out (and we were knee deep in snow still - ha).  Slow down, time.  Puh-lease.  (Except for 7:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday; you can speed up then).  I have lots to do and little time to do it. We've kept pretty busy this month, with some low-key, relaxing moments sprinkled in.  It been nice.  And I suppose this is why time feels like it is flying by. We've only been out golfing once so far, which is so unusual for us at this time of year.  But it's safe to say that it has been one crazy spring so far.  Summer had better be nicer to us.   My dad beat me by 2 strokes, so I will be on a personal mission to beat him the next round.  Jon wasn't far behind us, and also has a personal mission I'm sure. Despite having tragically depressing da...

Daily drive through the country

I live on the outskirts of the cities, which means literally 1/2 mile down the road from my house there is farmland.  We hadn't driven that way a whole lot, as it's east of us and almost everywhere we go is west.  A few weeks ago, they started major road construction on the road we normally take to get to and from our house.  The detour is an annoying windy road through neighborhoods, and I frankly don't have the patience for it.  So we've started using the next main road east of us to get around, which leads us right through farmland.  I'm rather enjoying the change in scenary.  There are no pesky stoplights or busy intersections.  There aren't any stripmalls or restaurants or gas stations.  There is only countryside.  Quaint little houses that have been there for probably 50+ years, with more history than anywhere I've lived.  Lots of open land that I fear will be next in the ever-expanding housing developm...

Spring is here

I'm not the only person talking about the weather.  It's been the topic of conversation for months.  Last year I went golfing in March.  This year, it hailed on May 11th.  It's been ridiculous, and I feel like we lost almost all of spring and are fast forwarding to summer.  After all, tomorrow will supposedly feel like it's summer. I'm not complaining, because anything warmer than colder is just fine by me. And I wouldn't be a true Minnesotan if I didn't talk a little weather.  It's what we do here.  It comes up most mornings with my co-workers, especially since I live so far away and have had crazy weather like snow and hail when they have green grass.  Two weeks ago, on one of our recent (and first) lovely evenings, Jon and I headed out for some fresh air.  I ran, he rode his bicycle, and it all felt so idyllic.  I had my latino music blaring and got into an old rhythm that I hadn't felt in so long.  I used to...
