1 Week Down

Image
Well, I’ve survived 1 week of 21 Day Fix. I have to say, it certainly wasn’t easy at first. After calculating out my allowed portions per day, I immediately started stressing. How was I going to do this? It turns out, the program isn’t so bad if you actually plan ahead and think about your meals. No more sitting in my car at lunch wondering where I should pick up food. No more resorting to cereal and toast for dinner (too many carbs!). No more letting produce spoil, or worse yet, not even buying any produce. Having Shakeology for one meal a day has been awesome. I’m glad I got them. I’ve been having them for breakfast, which has been quite convenient on workdays. Yes, it does add a new complexity to my morning dash out the door, but it turns out I can make a shake one-handed and Carter seems to enjoy watching the blender. And no one seems to mind if I'm a few minutes late to work.  I was skeptical about these shakes at first – could these really be as amazing as the...

Day in the Life - Summer 2015

Image
It's time for another Day in the Life, summer edition! If you make it through my long, rambling day of a lot of fussy baby talk, kudos to you. ------------ Sunday, July 12, 2015 Carter is 7 months old (today!) 12:00am | Not surprisingly, I start this "DITL" awake, nursing a restless/teething baby. Carter's lower right incisor is just starting to break through, so we have been doing a lot of nursing at night and ice cubes during the day. I'm so ready for this tooth! I check Facebook as I think I might fall asleep in the chair if I don't do something. I chuckle at a photo that my cousin posted from our family reunion the day before...I somehow perfectly timed a photobomb while pacing in an open field putting Carter to sleep. Carter fortunately continues to rock night-sleeping and puts himself right back to sleep, flipping from back to front in the 10 seconds it takes me to walk back to my room. My tummy-sleeper. 2:45am | Here we go again. It's e...

Seven months

Image
Seven whole months of this guy. Carter is becoming more and more active, like, crazy-moving-all-the-time-and-it's-exhausting active. He still inchworms his way around, but he is more frustrated than ever that he can’t just ‘go’. He twists and turns to scan the room for anything interesting to grab, and the second you pick him up from somewhere (as he whined for you to do, mind you), he immediately turns back towards that spot and leans as if he wants to go back. He’s a huge fan of playing on the outside of his exersaucer or bouncer or car carrier while we hold him. Rascal. He also recently started leaning back when you hold him to look upside down, so both arms are usually needed with him. Buckles, tags, iPhones, and glasses of water continue to fascinate Carter. He will lunge at the sight of any of them. Fortunately, he hasn't started crying when we take them away or move them out of sight. We're fearfully waiting for that day. We are definitely in teething t...

Wish me luck

I'm about to start the 21 Day Fix , and I'm nervous. Excited, but really nervous. I've been longing to get my butt in gear for several months now. It turns out I've hit a wall in terms of postpartum weight loss the easy way (breastfeeding). I'm jealous of the women that are lucky enough to lose all their pregnancy weight simply by breastfeeding. I'm not one of them. Granted, my postpartum days began stuffing my face with Christmas cookies, which could have started me on the wrong track. First world problems. I've definitely dropped a lot of the baby weight, because let's be honest - I gained quite a bit. But I have at least 10 more pounds to go, ideally 15. And a very pudgy belly to tone up and tuck back into place. I've had intentions to start running or Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, but I manage to come up with excuses every time. Weeknights are plain hard. I get home, play with Carter for the measly 45 minutes I get, put him to bed, make s...
