Miscellany

Where the heck is spring?  I'm tired of the cold, tired of my sweaters, and I want to start wearing something other than my bulky winter coat.  This is depressing. I'm dog-sitting for my cousin for 10 days, and it's been fun so far.  I have forgotten how nice it is to come home and have someone soooo excited to see you.  This dog is a crazy licker (which I try to avoid), regularly curls up behind my head on the back of the couch and whacks me with his long tail, and loves to have his belly rubbed.  It's been strange living at their house (it's just so much easier than bringing him to our own house with no yard), but I'm very much enjoying the short commute to work and proximity to my old stomping grounds.  We've also gotten to hang out with my parents more since they are only minutes away. I babysat pretty little Mila last Saturday, which was a blast.  She was stunned when she woke up from her nap to me and not her momma.  But there wer...

Laziness

I have become really good at being lazy.   Like, really good.   I blame it on the weather.   What?   I’m certainly not 100% responsible. :) Winter, after the holidays, is typically pretty quiet for us.   There is the occasional get together planned, but most often we are home with not a lot to do.   It’s cold and dark almost all non-working hours, and aside from the necessary grocery shopping or an occasional movie or dinner out, we stay at home.   And often bundle up under our fleece blankets on the couch in front of the TV or with our computers and books.   Even the laundry, dishes, and cleaning get pushed off as long as possible, even though we certainly have nothing but time on our hands.   Seriously, lazy.   It’s amazing how productive I am only when I’m busy and on a tight schedule. Last Sunday was the epitome of laziness.   We stayed in our pajamas and watched TV most of the day.   I’m not exaggerating – al...

Confessions of a sugar-aholic

Image
True confession: I have a sweet tooth.  I love sugar.  Any surprise?  Probably not. I can't recall a time in my entire life that I passed up an offering of something sweet. In fact, I find it nearly impossible to pass on it, even if I know that I'm not hungry or I've consumed way too many calories already.  It doesn't matter, when it comes to sugar.  They are so. dang. delicious. When we were young, I remember my sister and I had a bowl of ice cream every night before bed, often covered in chocolate sauce.  It was a wonderful ritual. I've been told that I once hid a fudgesicle under the radiator in our old house when I was really young.  Probably to devour at a later time when my sweet tooth hit.  I think I learned pretty quickly that it wasn't a very good hiding spot for a frozen treat (or maybe my parents' found it and its melted glory before I had a chance to hide another).  All signs point to an ear...
