Carter - 2 Years

Image
Well. I can't believe I forgot to post anything at Carter's second birthday! I managed to write for every month his first year of life and then can't remember to capture the annual version? Eesh. Since I don't want to forget Carter and all that he is right now, I suppose this is better late than never. This boy, he's larger than life. Such a funny personality, always laughing, always smiling, ,always hopping or running or climbing. Definitely full of energy. I love him to pieces. First, the numbers. At his birthday Carter was about 34.5 inches tall and weighed 28 pounds. In size 5 diapers and 24-mo and 2T clothing, although still wearing some 18-mo stuff due to his tiny waist. Carter continues to be an awesome sleeper. One of Jon's clients just commented how they finally turned a corner with their 3-year-old and sleep, and Jon was baffled. We don't have any issues with sleep, thankfully. He goes to bed pretty well, after a few stalling techniqu...

Life Lately

Image
A quick update on life lately (since late Fall), according to my phone. Because where else do these photos/stories go? We loooooooooved the beautiful, long Fall weather. We were outside every moment we could be, chasing this kid around. The cold was not an easy transition for him, not being able to run around outside anymore. Welcome to Minnesota, kiddo. Carter started swim lessons, and to no one's surprise thought it was the greatest thing EVER. His favorite is jumping in. And also learning the song "Motor Boat," which he continues to sing all the time. I attended one class with him, otherwise it was a Daddy-Carter activity. Thank goodness. Crouching to stay under waist-deep water for 30 minutes was brutal on me and my giant self, but key to keeping my always-shivering-when-wet son warm. Now, every time we say we have to pack his bag, he says, "Swimming bag!" Sorry, buddy...lessons are over for now. Many snacks were had in our driveway. ...

Carter, today

My baby boy is not so baby anymore, and doing some pretty amazing and hilarious things. I keep telling myself I need to write more often and capture all the good (and some bad) that is this stage in our lives. Here I finally am, almost 3 months after I started this post. Bullet points seem to feel the least daunting for this task, so here it goes. Carter can count to ten (and then some)! I doubted this ability when Jon boasted about it a few weeks ago. He's not even 2, and I certainly haven't been teaching him numbers - how could he know them? Then I heard it for myself, in that sweet little chirpy voice of his. "One, two, twee, fo, fi, six, sen, et, nine, TEN." He says ten very enthusiastically. It turns out Jon has been counting with him for weeks, and I know he sits during flash cards at daycare so he must be picking up on it there too. He tries to count beyond ten, but it usually ends up with fourteen and eighteen and back to ten again.  Sleep has been a...

18 months

My sweet, sweet Carter. Now 18-months-old. (I just mistakenly typed "years" instead of "months" and had a brief panic attack. I'm sure it'll feel like tomorrow he is that old). Anyway. I just can't believe it. I loved the monthly photos we did in his first year, and decided I'd try to continue them for his half and whole birthdays for as long as he's willing to go along with it. I'm sure it won't last long, but wouldn't that be a riot to see him sitting by the teddy bear as a teenager? Hehehe. Here is a comparison I did (and now find myself swooning over...my baby!!). I mean, TIME. Really. Do you have to happen so quickly? According to his most recent check-up, Carter is 25 pounds and 32 inches. A bit shorter than the average kid, but he seems big to me so I'm not sure who these giant children are that fit into the 50%+. He sobbed during his two shots, though it started when I had to pin him down on the exam table, ...
