Ten months

I'm going to gloss over the fact that this reminds me he is just 2 months shy of a year and jump right in. (Gulp).

Ten months.

What is Carter up to these days?
  • He loves emptying things. Anything. If his drawer is open, he pulls out all of the clothing inside. This is particularly problematic when I am trying to put laundry away and it’s coming back out as fast as it’s going in. Not to mention the destruction to a stack of folded laundry (which is why I rarely fold in the first place), his toys, and basically anything within reach that is neatly organized.

  • For awhile now, he likes to raise his left arm straight into the air, hand in a fist, tuck his chin, and loudly proclaim, "Woooooah" or "Wowwww." It’s hilarious. A few times he has delighted Jon with a "touchdown" move. And he still flaps his arms when he gets excited. Actual clapping with his hands is just starting to make sense to him.

  • He will stick out his tongue if you do yours. (He's quite obsessed with tongues these days). He'll also blow raspberries or squeal if you do. We have ourselves a little copycat.
  • This last month, he started sleeping through the night. THROUGH THE NIGHT. 11-12 hours. Some might say this should have been happening long ago, but I never minded getting up once to nurse him. He’s only a baby for a short time, and it always seemed reasonable he might want some nourishment and/or Mama time, so we never did any sleep training. I do sort of miss some of those middle of the night snuggles, but at the same time am thrilled to be getting 6-7 hours of straight (or at least solid) sleep.

  • He loves to crawl with something in his hand or mouth. A (clean) diaper, a spoon, a burp rag…it doesn’t matter. This is particularly hilarious when he’s got something slippery in his hand and is trying to navigate the kitchen floor. His favorite spots in the kitchen are the refrigerator door (when we leave it open for him), the stairs, or either door stopper.

  • This kid is fast. One minute he is at your feet, the next he is across the room about to grab a glass of water off the edge of a table that you completely forget was there. He particularly goes nuts when you undress him before bath time. The diaper is barely off and he is race crawling into the bathroom.
  • His favorite foods these days are bananas (still), ravioli, yogurt bites, black beans, and any bread. That's my boy! He's eating so well now.
  • He came down with roseola, or a similar virus, and was a sad mess for about 3 days. He would only nap in my arms, but usually woke crying the instant you sat down with him in your arms. We were concerned about a possible ear infection, but fortunately he didn't have one (or it went away on its own). A week later, and he now has a cold. I swear, this kid is picking up everything he comes in contact with. I guess it only makes him stronger down the road...
  • And because I don't want to end on a sad, sicky face Carter, here he is all ready for Fall! And looking handsome as ever.

  1. Crawling with stuff in their mouth is totally my favorite. Also, I just love him Lisa.
