Annabel - Ten months
Aaaaand, she's 10 months old. (Two weeks ago)
Annabel really upped her gross motor skills game this last month by starting to crawl. Finally! I had forgotten how fun it is to watch them figure out how to coordinate their arms and legs, swerving and dropping. She had been up on all fours quite a bit, but then one evening just started moving forward. She may have done so at daycare during the day, but our provider is such a pro she knew not to say anything so we can feel like we witnessed her first moves. ;)
We now have to baby proof again, a task that I'm not really looking forward to. Especially with a 3-year-old that has a lot of small toys.
Her pincer grasp is A+. Her eyesight as well, for that matter. She can find the tiniest crumb and pick it up like it's no big deal.
She also started blowing raspberries a lot more often, and open-mouthed kisses on occasion. She began putting her thumb in her mouth (I think while teething), and we're fearful that she will make that a habit, so we started giving her her pacifier more often just to combat that.
Speaking of, the girl looooves her pacifier. If she sees any on her bedside table when I sit down to nurse her, she must hold all of them. At one point we had 3 that we put in her bed for middle-of-the-night ease, and she put one in her mouth and held one in each hand. It was hilarious when she laid in my arms to nurse and couldn't figure out how to take the one out of her mouth with two full hands. I know this will be a bad habit to break later on, but we managed with Carter just fine, and we appreciate that she has a way to soothe herself and fall asleep (that is not her thumb).
Her relationship with Carter continues to be sweet, but with it's moments. She will scream at him if he is grabbing her hand too aggressively or poking her, and sometimes even when he's just near her. Girlfriend needs her space sometimes...a fact that isn't very well understood by her brother. He just loves her so much he has to be in her bubble. And doesn't quite understand how to be gentle. But all in all, she still lights up when he comes in the room, laughs at him when he dances around being silly, and tries to play with whatever he is playing.
This last month, Annabel made her debut as a flower girl! She and Carter were both in her godmother's (Jon's cousin) wedding and they were the cutest kids in the whole entire world. No, seriously. She rocked her glittery dress and frilly headband, and Carter walked down the aisle in his dapper black suit like it was his job.
And she enjoyed her first taste of french fries. Blogworthy for sure.
Annabel also experienced her last "first" holiday - Christmas! Part of it in Jamaica, no less. (We go big for baby #2). Her first flight went remarkably well, though I am not afraid to admit that I was so relieved my parents were there too. Annabel didn't nap all that well with me, probably because I had a loud toddler making his demands most of the time. But she did snooze in Grandma's arms, which was a saving grace.
Her Christmas was as delightful as a first Christmas should be. She wore Christmas leggings and jammies, enjoyed trying to eat tiny pieces of wrapping paper, and couldn't have cared less about the actual presents she received. It was so special to spend it with both sides of our family, and particularly with my sister and her family in Jamaica.
Always on the go, now that she can crawl.
Swimming in the pool on Christmas Day was a first for us, and very much enjoyed. She loooves the water, and will splash and kick and doesn't care that it gets in her face.
We are enjoying watching Annabel's personality come out. She is such a chill baby, very observant and curious and eager. She rarely cries, and the most trouble she gives us is that she will only go to sleep at night for me. She still loves her car seat, loves eating at the table with us, loves to be tickled, and loves music. She giggles when you tease her, or chase her, and seems to love smacking her lips when she's feeling extra playful.
We just love this girl to pieces!
