Rosas

Five days later and they more gorgeous than ever. I can't believe it!I've never been one to go crazy over flowers. I mean, they are pretty, smell nice, and can definitely brighten up the day. They can be really special too. But their beauty is temporary, can be expensive, and I'm much too practical. In fact, I told Jon last week that he needn't worry about getting me anything for Valentine's Day. I wasn't feeling too into the holiday, which is somewhat ironic considering the many Valentine's Days that I spent in my single life wanting nothing more than a man to shower me with gifts of love. Hmmph.

Despite my somewhat scrooge-ness for V Day, I admit I was thrilled when the roses were delivered to me on Monday! They are the first flowers I have ever received (out of love) from someone. Jon gave me a single rose last year, and I have gotten a couple of bouquets as thank you's from people (women) at work, but never a gorgeous arrangement such as this one! I felt loved.

People commented all day how nice that was, but that we were newly weds so it wouldn't last. Excuse me? I mean, yes I am practical and don't expect flowers or gifts like that, but who are you to tell me that my husband will just give up these sweet gestures when we aren't newlyweds? It annoyed me.

Nonetheless, I was determined to pay back the gesture by making Jon his favorite meal that night - mostaccioli. Only when I got home did I realize that a) I had all the ingredients except mozzarella cheese, and b) I wouldn't be starting dinner any time soon as I had just received an urgent call from my client that would mean at least an hour on my computer. Blast. I told Jon what I had wanted to do for dinner. But when I mentioned we didn't have the right cheese and showed him the random assortment of cheeses we did have, his face said it all. So I dropped the idea and accepted the fact that my gesture was well intended but wouldn't happen. I failed.

Tonight, however, I had redemption. The right cheese, plenty of time on my hands, so my man just enjoyed a tasty dish of mostaccioli. And I'm still enjoying a lovely view of those gorgeous rosas!

  1. Those flowers are beautiful! And don't worry it will last even after you are no longer considered "newlyweds" - don't listen to what everyone else says!
