A sweet welcome

Image
I was apparently very missed in the office while I was in Europe the last week and a half.  This is what I found at my desk this morning:  It's sweet, and brought a smile to my not-so-happy-to-be-here jetlagged face, but it also solidifies that it is nearly impossible for me to take time off without causing extreme misery amongst my co-workers that get stuck being my back-ups.  Even when I plan ahead and make detailed notes and instructions, something always blows up while I'm out.  And in this case, a few somethings did.  Sigh. At least they are all troopers and I got to enjoy my time off.  I'm sure they'll repay me the favor someday.

A new love

Image
I splurged and bought a new camera! It's been the highlight of the year so far.  I got the Canon T3i DSLR, and I am totally in love already. Seriously in love. I spent a couple of months hemming and hawing about it, wondering if I should spend that much on a camera , if I'd really use it enough to make it worth it, if I should wait until Christmas sales, and so on... In the end I decided I should definitely buy it, as I have always dreamed of getting into photography.  If I never bought the camera I needed to make that happen, how would I ever in fact make that happen?  Right. My husband spent hours researching online, as he is so good at, and found a great deal through Amazon.  I discovered that I could use my reward points from work to offset the hefty pricetag, so it seemed like a no brainer.  Once the purchase was made, I couldn't have been more giddy about it.  I watched the FedEx tracker all ...

Memorial Day Weekend

Image
This Memorial Day weekend was great.  For starters, my sister and brother-in-law were in town, which is always cause for a good time.  They are awesome.  They live out east, but are soon to be moving to Brazil to start an amazing adventure, so we were so happy they could make it home for a few days to see their adorable faces.  We will be planning a trip to visit them within the next year or two (of course), and we are all set up with Skype and WhatsApp to chat/text for free, so keeping in touch as we always have won't be a problem.  But it is always nice to have them here. Some would say my sister and I are two peas in a pod.  We have a lot in common and we look a lot alike, or so people say.  Our personalities and mannerisms are also quite similar.  I followed her to Costa Rica, she picked up golf after me, we both learned to love Spanish and travel...  So it's no surprise that I followed suit and boug...

Life lately

Image
Life hasn't been terribly exciting lately, but for the sake of blogging about something , I've jotted down a few things over the last couple of weeks.  I can't really make this much of a cohesive post, so bulleted comments about 'life lately' will have to do.   I love that it is finally light out when I leave for work in the morning.  There's nothing more depressing than leaving in the dark and coming home in the dark, so yay for Spring.  I've also gotten to witness a few really awesome sunrises as I leave our neighborhood, which makes the early hour a little more bareable. We enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day with both of our families. Grilled burgers, salad, and pie for lunch, and Chinese takeout and pie for dinner.  Yes, I ate two giant pieces of pie that day - I figured it was for a good cause.  ;)  Oh, and my mother and mother-in-law are pretty awesome. At the airport last week, I was in line buying some water and an overp...

Golf and a funny gift

Image
My husband, dad, and I went golfing on Good Friday at my old stomping grounds from high school.  It was a beautiful sunny day and so wonderful to not be at work.  But it was no ordinary day of golf, because my husband had a gift for me.  I should have known he was up to something, because he ran off to Target that morning while I was in the shower and came back with a strange excuse and a bag of chocolates.  But, I clearly haven't learned better in the 4 years I've known him, so I accepted the excuse and moved on.  Later on at the golf course on the first tee, he pulled a kid's plastic sand shovel out of his bag and handed it to me, saying that he got it for me to help me out of the sand.  Ha.  Funniest gift ever. A little cocky, you might say, thinking I'd need help out of the sand?  Well, he unfortunately had good reason.  The weekend prior I played one of the worst rounds ever, after getting stuck in a san...

Day in the Life

Image
I always wondered how a "day in the life" post would turn out for me.  Rounds of them have circulated through many blogs that I frequently read and I've always loved catching a glimpse into what someone else's "normal" was - stranger or friend.  But could mine be nearly as interesting to everyone else?  Doubtful, but I'll let you be the judge of that.  I did not remember to take many pictures.  ---------- Tuesday, March 27 5:45am: My alarm goes off and jolts me awake.  It can't be morning already.  I realize that I am freezing, as we had already taken off our down comforter when it got super warm out last week.  Note to self to wear more clothing to bed (or maybe actually put another blanket on our bed). 5:47am: Out of bed and head to take a shower.  There's no snoozing or wasting time laying in bed for me - I've never been one to do that, weekends or not.  Plus I'm terrified I will fall back asleep and be late...

Snap, crackle, and pop

Last Friday I finally saw a chiropractor, and oh my gosh, I had forgotten the amazing things they can do. I hadn't been to one since a couple of years ago, when I was rear-ended at a stoplight.  I remember being reluctant to see someone about my neckpain, having had no experience with chiropractic care and expecting the whiplash pain would go away after a few days.  But it didn't, and I finally made a call and was convinced to get evaluated.  Diagnosis was two torn ligaments in my neck, which caused the curve of my neck to go flat.  Freaky.  My first adjustment was terrifying.  Having your head yanked and cranked in all sorts of directions is bound to make anyone imagine the worst.  But I survived (and was told it would be impossible for him to break my neck doing what he was doing), and spent the next four months getting adjustments and massage therapy and loving it!  I had never felt better.  My headaches that I...
