Sisters and little misters

Image
I came across this photo today as I was organizing thousands (yep) of photos of Carter. It brought a huge smile to my face and I'm so glad we have this moment captured from Christmas. Thanks, Auntie Ann!   And, to clarify, we don't usually all wear matching colors...we did so for a larger extended family photo. :) My sister and our little misters. Who would've thought this is where we'd be today. A few years ago, we couldn't have possibly guessed that these two amazing little boys would enter our lives. We are so blessed. I mean, seriously. How cute is my nephew and his big brown eyes? And Carter? Holy smokes, look how tiny he was. This photo brings me such joy. These people bring me such joy. I anticipate many fun moments in the future with these two little boys. I hope they become good friends as they grow up. I suspect they will.

Four months

Image
My sweet little blue-eyed boy is four months old. I just re-read the previous monthly posts, and oh, I'm feeling all mostly nostalgic for those early baby days. All the more reason to continue documenting, even if it isn't interesting to anyone else but me. :) Carter is so much fun these days. He smiles, he giggles, he stares intently, he reaches, he moves, he reacts... I love it. But he feels like a lot of work these days too. He requires more attention, more entertainment, and by the evening more creative distraction to keep the fussiness at bay. Cradling him calmly in my arms no longer suffices - he arches his back, twists his head backwards, and tries to just GO. Somewhere. Anywhere. I know this is just the beginning.  Carter's latest achievement has been rolling over. About two weeks ago, he was on his tummy and started rocking, lifting his butt, doing mini downward dog positions, and he tipped right on over onto his back. He's done it a couple more tim...

Day in the Life - Spring 2015

Image
Time for another 'Day in the Life' post! I have only done a few of these over the past couple of years, but decided that this year I'd set out to have one from each season of 2015 to look back on. Probably all because of Carter, because time is flying by and I want to capture as much as I can of this point in our lives. I get such a kick out of reading my winter DITL post when Carter was a wee 6 weeks old. Oh how things have changed, and how I've forgotten! So? Here I am for the Spring edition. Click over to  My Life in Transition  to see the other DITL participants! Saturday, April 11, 2015 Carter is 17 weeks old, just one day shy of 4 months 12:08am | I hear Carter cry and stumble out of bed. It's a good thing we rearranged our room and my side of the bed is now the closest to the door. His eyes are still closed, but he wants his pacifier. I plug it in his mouth and he settles instantly. 1:25am | Ugh, more cries. When do you learn to put the pacifier bac...

Easter fun

Image
I found myself really looking forward to this Easter. I suspect I'll feel the same way about all holidays now. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy holidays pre-kid, but children definitely put a new spin on things for sure. Now the family time that I have always adored is just that much more enhanced with Carter included. I spent a couple weeks looking for the perfect Easter outfit for my little man. I have to admit, I was deeply jealous of all the adorable little girl dresses and outfits. The cute "Easter" boy clothes I kept finding were all shorts, or ridiculously expensive. I wasn't about to spend $50+ on an outfit that surely he would poop through before the end of the day. Plus, we had two Easter celebrations to dress for. I ended up finding a cute onesie with a tie on it in the hand-me-downs from friends. (Seriously, it's been like Christmas every couple months as I sort through the next size up). And then I found a similar onesie shopping, s...

Three months

Image
I'm late for Carter's three-month post. I guess that's what happens when you go back to work and no longer have endless hours holding baby on the couch with a free hand to blog from your phone. Three months in this world. Wow. And just about 1 year of existence . How crazy to think he started out as a tiny ball of cells. Carter's personality is just blooming, and it's been so incredible to watch. I keep saying that each new phase is the best, but it really is. Sure, I do miss the tiny, quiet, fits-in-the-crook-of-my-arm sleepy baby, but this squirmy, loud, getting heavy one is pretty dang awesome. So far, Carter's disposition seems pretty laid back and content. He enjoys people, a lot, but like his mama seems to also feel a bit overstimulated and likes some quiet. He squawks when he's tired of something and wants new scenery, and has this adorable new pouty lip when he's on the verge of crying. But generally he's very happy and will crack...

A new normal

Image
I joked that after my maternity leave ended I would be back to normal life. I very much felt in limbo while on leave, knowing that it wasn't a permanent situation, that my weekdays home with Carter were numbered, and that I was on the cusp of a whole new reality for me. For us, I should say, as it's affecting Carter perhaps even greater than me. While I was sort of kidding about going "back to normal" (because nothing about a new life with a baby feels the same), I knew going back to work would bring some normalcy and much needed structure back into my life. I loved my weeks home with him. LOVED. And I am so grateful we could afford me to do so. But at the same time, I am definitely feeling a bit more grounded and human now that I'm back at work. I hate saying that, as if I prefer to be working than home with my baby. I don't. But, if I am really honest, I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a full time stay-at-home mom. And my career, though at times exh...

Maternity leave

Image
My maternity leave has ended. Boo. These has been the most amazing weeks of my life. Such a whirlwind of love. Joy. Wonderment. (And of course sleep deprivation, stress, and exhaustion, but we don't need to focus on them). I'm so grateful that I could take this time with my sweet baby and create precious memories. But gosh, I just can't believe I'll be separated from him for 11 hours a day. How depressing. I've been fighting back tears for 3 days now. But truth be told, I am looking forward to getting into our new routine. And some adult time. And the ability to eat lunch with both hands, sitting, at my own pace. We've been living "in limbo" knowing that life was going to have to change after 12 weeks. So here, we move onto the next phase in our lives. I wish I could have some of both (work and home) but alas part time is not possible right now. While nursing Carter to sleep tonight, I started to get emotional. He must have sensed it, because he...
