Baby #2 | 33 weeks

Image
Little lady is now 33 weeks along. She will arrive in just ‘a matter of weeks’ now, and that is mind boggling. I am starting to feel a bit anxious about her arrival, for several reasons. One, I don’t have anything ready for her. Her room, while free from the former clutter, is still just an office. Her crib and dresser are unassembled. Her walls are unpainted. Her generous hand-me-down clothes are still boxed up in the closet, untouched. Her car seat is still packaged up. I did wash a few items for her to have in the hospital: a blanket and a going home outfit. That’s about it. I think I had Carter’s room completely ready for him by the time I was 30 weeks. Eh, second children. I know that her room isn’t critical to her arrival, but I think I will feel less anxious if I can have some sort of organization and preparedness for HER room, HER space, HER stuff. Fortunately, I now have a plan in place to feel a bit more organized, thanks to an encouraging friend. She’s eve...

Life Lately

Image
A quick update on life lately (since late Fall), according to my phone. Because where else do these photos/stories go? We loooooooooved the beautiful, long Fall weather. We were outside every moment we could be, chasing this kid around. The cold was not an easy transition for him, not being able to run around outside anymore. Welcome to Minnesota, kiddo. Carter started swim lessons, and to no one's surprise thought it was the greatest thing EVER. His favorite is jumping in. And also learning the song "Motor Boat," which he continues to sing all the time. I attended one class with him, otherwise it was a Daddy-Carter activity. Thank goodness. Crouching to stay under waist-deep water for 30 minutes was brutal on me and my giant self, but key to keeping my always-shivering-when-wet son warm. Now, every time we say we have to pack his bag, he says, "Swimming bag!" Sorry, buddy...lessons are over for now. Many snacks were had in our driveway. ...

Baby #2 | 29 weeks

Image
Well, I'm not keeping up on documenting this little lady's gestation like I'd like. Oh well. I have a few more important things to worry about this time around. Like sleep. Or a clingy toddler. But here I am. Baby girl - 29 weeks along! This is getting real. So is the belly. I feel monstrous this time around, and wondered how I was comparing to Carter's pregnancy, so I dug around for some comparison photos. It seems I am looking larger faster. Even though my OB says I'm measuring perfectly (again) and my weight gain this time around is slower. Thank goodness for that. I passed the glucose screening with flying colors, and both she and I seem to be in optimal health so far. Good heartbeats, good movement, low blood pressure, little swelling... I don't overlook how blessed I am to have uncomplicated pregnancies. It seems too lucky. Baby Girl is currently breech, so I am feeling a bit cautious about celebrating a hiccup-free pregnancy. But she ...

Carter, today

My baby boy is not so baby anymore, and doing some pretty amazing and hilarious things. I keep telling myself I need to write more often and capture all the good (and some bad) that is this stage in our lives. Here I finally am, almost 3 months after I started this post. Bullet points seem to feel the least daunting for this task, so here it goes. Carter can count to ten (and then some)! I doubted this ability when Jon boasted about it a few weeks ago. He's not even 2, and I certainly haven't been teaching him numbers - how could he know them? Then I heard it for myself, in that sweet little chirpy voice of his. "One, two, twee, fo, fi, six, sen, et, nine, TEN." He says ten very enthusiastically. It turns out Jon has been counting with him for weeks, and I know he sits during flash cards at daycare so he must be picking up on it there too. He tries to count beyond ten, but it usually ends up with fourteen and eighteen and back to ten again.  Sleep has been a...

Baby #2 | 23 weeks

Yesterday, my OB decided to move up my due date by a week, so I'm suddenly 23 weeks! I will gladly jump ahead. I know it doesn't really matter much, as this girl is going to make her appearance whenever she's ready, despite my weekly countdown. But still. Yay. Apparently at our U/S she was measuring over 90% which seemed unusually high considering Carter was always consistently in the 70% area. There was initial concern about my glucose, but after discussing dates, my first U/S (where she was measuring ahead a week already), and measuring my bump (a solid 23-24 week size), we figured the dating was probably off. End of February it is. When she shows up is up to her. So let's see. Other Baby #2 updates: She's moving up a storm, and Jon finally felt her kick last night. (Not that we've been trying for him to feel her - it was probably the second time we gave it a go. Second child syndrome).  I gained 3 pounds this last week alone. It co...

It's a...

We found out earlier this week that we are blessed with a sweet little girl on the way! All along, I've felt very strongly it was a girl. For no specific reason that I could describe, other than it's what I felt. Jon thought it was for sure a girl for the mere fact that I was more nauseous and tired this time than with Carter, and apparently "girls are trouble." Whatever. But hello? Mothering a needy toddler while trying to get through the first trimester...I started out fatigued for goodness sake, so of course I'm more tired this time. And I couldn't fight off the nausea as well as I did the first time because snacking constantly just wasn't feasible. Unless I was willing to share with said toddler, or deal with his wrath when he couldn't have what I had. Or actually remembered to pack myself a snack. So, despite no real logical reasoning, I swore it was a girl, thought of her as a 'her,' imagined buying little dresses and decorating he...

Day in the Life - Fall 2016

Image
I haven't done one of these for a year now, and with how crazy fast our lives are changing (with a toddler) I decided I definitely wanted to document what life was like right now. Linking up to My Life in Transition ! -------- Saturday, October 15, 2016 Jon 37, Lisa 36, Carter 22 months, Baby #2 20 weeks in gestation. 1:30am | (I hate to start with this as my first of the day but, I'm pregnant, and this is real life) I get up to use the bathroom. I'm proud I made it 4 hours! 5:40am | I wake in a startle to "Mama! Maaamaaa!" and think it is way too early. Why can't he sleep until 6:30 like last weekend? By the time I awkwardly roll over (already, and I'm not even that big yet) and look at the monitor, he is laying back down and quiet. Perhaps he got the hint that this is way too early. 5:50am | Nope. More shouting for me, so I get up and stumble into his room. Phone in hand, I remember, to document this day! He immediately orders for his sl...
